The bicycles of the 1860s, particularly those designed in France, were essentially semirecumbents (Hadland and Lessing (2014)). Jul 14, 2018 The Cruzbike is an excellent design and has the correct frame geometry. For chaindriven MBB bikes, there is absolutely no need to incline the head angle, or to do any of the things I suggest in my paper. These design challenges, and my recommendations, are exclusive to directdrive, where the pedal crank is closer to the steering axis.

To the best of my knowledge there are no suitable directdrive hubs available commercially, which means that there are no bikes sold that use them. Schlumpf make a unicycle direct drive hub that offers 1: 1 and 1: 1. 55 gears, but for a recumbent bike those ratios would be ridiculously low.
